Essence Hello Marshmallow Colour & Go Nail Polish – Review, Swatches, Long-Lasting Test

by Tavia

Hello beauties!

My nails started this week by wearing Essence Colour & Go Nail Polish in No.149 Hello Marshmallow, a delicate and light shade, suitable to be worn during the warm season. This shade is part of Essence permanent nail polish line so you can find it right now at your local Essence counters.

Essence Hello Marshmallow Colour & Go Nail Polish (€1.79/ 8.00 Lei for 8 ml/ 0.27 fl oz) is a pastel lilac with cool undertones and blue and purple super soft shimmer which is visible in the bottle but not on the nails. The formula is so thin, almost watery so I had to wait a couple of minutes between coats for the polish to dry before layering another coat.

Essence Hello Marshmallow nail color looks very sheer and streaky in one coat so I hoped the second coat will give me full opacity but unfortunately I had to apply up to 3 coats to even out the color and finally get a full coverage.

The application lasted about 10 minutes as the polish looked so streaky and pooled along the edges of the nail due to its watery, super thin formula. I had to wait between the layers for the polish to be completely dry before I started with a new coat so I could even out the color and erase those brush strokes. After the third coat Essence Hello Marshmallow nail polish looked good and had a nice subtle shine.

I wanted a super glossy finish so I applied a thin coat of Jordana Yellow Out Top Coat only on my left hand nails so I can compare the results a few days later with my right hand nails and see how polish performed.

I’m wearing this pastel nail color even today after 3 days and I have to remove it only because the polish chipped on my right hand nails where I’ve applied only two coats and no top coat. On my left hand nails the polish looks good, still an opaque color with a glossy finish but I stated noticing some bubbling. I had no tip wear on these nails and it surely seems like this pastel color can’t not hold on to my nails without the protection of a top coat.

I like the colour, but what a shame it chips so soon!

That’s the difference that a top coat makes. On the nails where I’ve applied top coat the finish is perfect. 🙂
