Smashbox Halo Hydrating Perfecting Bronzer from Naked Beauty Summer 2010 Collection – Review, Photos, Swatches

by Tavia

Hi everyone!

I finally have the courage to review my first bronzer. The truth is I don’t use bronzers, rarely I use blushes so I try to keep it simple when it comes to cheeks. 🙂

I’ve got the Halo Hydrating Perfecting Bronzer together with other products from Smashbox Naked Beauty Summer 2010 Collection but I’ve postponed its review for a long time already.

Some of the products from Naked Beauty collection are available in a Limited Edition but you can still find the Bronzer available also online @Smashbox.com for the price of $39.00.

The packaging is simple but you will notice the  mirror incorporated in the jar, which makes it a great product for traveling. It’s very simply to use, you only need to twist the shaver to get the perfect amount of bronzer for a single application.

Halo Hydrating Perfecting Bronzer it said to be a universal true bronze shade that works on every skintone and never looks orange. Well I might have to disagree a little bit here, because I’m very pale and didn’t worked out for me. As much as I tried to blend it the color was too dark for me and I looked very strange. I might give it a try later on if I will go on vacation and get some tan. What I liked was indeed the color that had no orange undertones so if you are medium to dark skintone this would work for you.

I just swatched the bronzer on my cheek so you can see what I’m talking about when I say the color is not for me. I think after a couple of days on the beach I will try this bronzer again. 🙂

It is also suppose to minimize the signs of aging and if you believe in clinical studies, then you should know their results show a 33% decrease in appearance of wrinkles around the eyes in 10  minutes, and 67% decrease in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles in 6 weeks. I’ve used it only 2 times – I’ve removed it before I left the house 🙂 –  so I don’t really know about this aspect but from what I’ve read on other blogs it might not be all true about minimizing wrinkles.

Halo is packed with high performance ingredients like gold, 48 minerals and powerful peptide to perfect skin and get you glowing. Its patented hydration system delivers time released moisturization for radiant, healthy complexion all day.

Another problem I had with this bronzer (except the fact that looks way too dark on me) was when it came to apply it. My brush is quite wide so it makes the application more difficult because the pan has a small size. 🙁

One of the things I like about Halo is this matte finish – which is great for oily skin types like mine – which helps skin not to look oily.

The shaver contraption in the pan is also a product saver because you only twist it one time and if you want more product you only need to twist it again, so this will save you a lot of powder which can be lost otherwise.

I guess this is a half of review, since I didn’t tested the product for longer period of time but I will try to use it again in a few weeks and I will do an update post to let you know how it worked.

From my experience with Hallo Bronzer I can say:

I Like

  • Golden Brown Color with a sunkissed effect if you are medium to dark skintone
  • It doesn’t cake
  • Packaging – great for traveling, mirror included, small jar
  • Matte finish – recommended for oily skin types
  • The shaver – a real product saver
  • Doesn’t accentuate fine lines
  • Is Oil, Talc, Paraben free

I Don’t Like

  • The prize of $39.00  is too high for only 7.1 g (0.25 oz)
  • The small jar gave me a hard time when I wanted to dip my wide brush in
  • Too dark for my fair skin
  • The smell is kind of strange in the beginning but it will go away quickly

If you did tried out this product I would love to know how it worked out for you. If you have a fair skin like me I would also love to know what kind of bronzers you are using. 🙂

Maybe try it mixed in with the regular halo of your shade and it might help dull it down a bit?
I’m also very very fair skinned and use the fair halo as well as foundation F2.

I never use bronzers or blushes so I don’t have a clue what’s what but people rave about them all the time. I’m also lost when it comes to mineral vs pressed vs cream.

I’m not actually very friendly myself with bronzers and powders, I don’t like a heavy makeup, but since I got this bronzer I had to try it on. 🙂

I don’t use bronzers… I just haven’t found the perfect one for me. All of them are just too dark and I look dirty which I *really* hate 😀

Yeah…exactly this is the word…dirty 🙂 It’s just too complicated for me when it comes to bronzers 🙂

I don’t really use bronzers, cause they look dirty on me or have too much shine, and I look like a gold/bronze discoball:S I think I stick to my blushes and highlighters.

I’m anxious to try Smashbox Halo but I’m not so sure I want to try the bronzer. It doesn’t look like a great shade.

I rarely use bronzers because, having very fair skin, it’s really to find something that works for me. This looks like it would be too dark for my skin as well.

The smashbox ‘s prize is very high!
For example Halo finish powder is 60 euro in Italy!

OMG…that’s a lot. I’m from Europe too but in my country we don’t have Smashbox. If I thought that $39.00 is expensive then I’m “no comment” for those 60 Eur
