Shiseido Camellia Compact for Winter 2013 – Review, Photos & Swatches

by Tavia

Hello lovelies!

I had the pleasure of receiving Shiseido Camellia Compact (info & promo photos) a few months ago from Shiseido Romania. The product will be launched in October 2012 and will be available in Limited Edition.

Shiseido Camellia Compact ($36.00 for 6.5 g / .22 oz) features three shades – Rich Rose, Petal Pink, Cool Platinum – which can be used individually or blended together. The packaging is very stylish, simple and classic featuring Shiseido’s cherished camellia motif, even on the powder’s surface. The compact’s packaging can be used again once you hit the pan on these colors and you can refill it with one of Shiseido’s blushes or bronzers. It has a small opening in the back and if you point it with something sharp, the pan will pop-out, that easy.

All three colors have a subtle shimmer in the compact and swatched as well but after you used the first layer the colors loose most of their shimmer. I also took a photo of Camellia Compact outside in bright light and the shades look even more shimmery.

Rich Rose and Petal Pink shades can be used for blush while Cool Platinum for highlighter. They are meant only to be used on the cheeks so do not try to apply them on the eyes. All three shades blend naturally with any skin tone but for those with medium to dark skin Petal Pink and Cool Platinum might not show up on the cheeks, being so sheer shades.

All the shades have a smooth, velvety, high quality texture giving you a dewy finish with subtle shimmer.

Rich Rose is a dramatic, vividly rich peachy rose with a subtle shimmer and has a good color payoff. It was necessarily only one layer for the color to show up. It can look a little bit too bright if you decide to wear it individually if you have pale white skin like me.

Petal Pink is a pretty spring petal-pink, very sheer and subtle with a hint of shimmer. I had to layer the color a couple of times to show off even on my pale skin tone. It looks very natural on my cheeks, just a healthy pale pink with dewy finish.

Cool Platinum is a sultry, icy-platinum which can be perfectly used as a highlighter. This color really gave me a hard time swatching it because I had to apply like 4-5 layers so it can appear in the photo otherwise you guys would say I haven’t swatched anything.

The bottom line is Camellia Compact is definitely a classy and elegant compact with shades wrapped in a subtle shimmer which can be used as a blush or as a highlighter. While Rich Rose can look a little bit dramatic on pale skin it will be a perfect match for medium to darker skin tones. Petal Pink is a beautiful sheer rose pink that will complement every pale skin especially if always have problems with shades blending down and you just want something that looks natural, gives you a healthy glow and has just a hint of shimmer. Cool Platinum works on both pale or medium to dark skin tones or can used together with the other two shades to melt down that rich peachy rose of Rich Rose.
